Kigoma Town
Kigoma is the largest town on the shores of Lake Tanganyika. It is the only most developed town closest to both Gombe and Mahale National Parks. It is the starting point of most of our safaris to Gombe and Mahale National Parks. Most of our itineraries have the first and the last days of the safari in Kigoma.
Kigoma is home to the “Ha” tribe, which was the third largest tribe in Tanzania by the 1940s. It is famous for Dagaa fishing and Palm oil. Besides the close proximity to the Parks, Kigoma is also rich in history. It is the last place Europe and America sent an emissary to trace the whereabouts of the great scientist, missionary and explorer, Dr. Livingstone. Surrounded by the Lake on one side and scenic hills and valleys on the other, a tour of Kigoma town becomes an interesting part of your Chimpanzee safari
